Rashid Al Mulla will have a friend to thank if the Team Abu Dhabi star secures a fifth straight freestyle crown at the UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship in Italy on Sunday night.
The Emirati, unbeaten for five years, had to miss qualifying for Friday night’s pole position due to engine problems as the Sardinia Region Italian Grand Prix got underway.
Al Mulla found a solution by borrowing a friend’s jet ski to allow him to take his place in the first freestyle motorcycling competition, ending day two in the coastal town of Olbia, northeast of the Sardinia.
Roberto Mariani was the top freestyle qualifier, but the Italian, and all the other challengers, couldn’t stop Al Mulla from winning a streak of 13 Grand Prix and 28 successive moto victories since 2017.
Mechanical issues permitting, Al Mulla will be looking to extend the longest winning streak in international watersports when the final round of the 2022 Aquabike World Championship reaches its climax on Sunday evening.
In Ski Ladies GP1, three-time Team Abu Dhabi world champion Emma-Nellie Ortendahl took sixth place in today’s first round, won by Frenchwoman Estelle Poret.
