Canoville thinks the Chelsea player could step in in time for the FA Cup final
Paul Canoville hasn’t completely given up hope that Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku will still emerge with a big moment in this month’s FA Cup final.
The Blues will face rivals Liverpool in a week’s time at Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup final, which is a replay of this season’s Carabao Cup final.
Thomas Tuchel’s side were on the wrong end of a February penalty shoot-out loss to the Reds, so they will be desperate for revenge next weekend. Meanwhile, Liverpool are still looking for an unprecedented four-fold this campaign.
For Lukaku, it must be said that at the moment it seems unlikely that he will be in the starting line-up against Liverpool.
He had a goal disallowed in the Carabao Cup final, but he seems far from Tuchel’s favorite starting XI at the moment.
The Chelsea Chronicle predicts he will get a rare start in today’s Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, which would be an opportunity he simply couldn’t miss should it happen.
Canoville suggests that there may still be life in Lukaku’s season:
Last roll of the dice
Lukaku’s season was a failure on reflection as he wasn’t the goalscoring striker the club really needed.
However, there may still be an opportunity to salvage his campaign.
If he can score a winner in the FA Cup final against Liverpool, it will be a similar story to Kai Havertz’s goal which won the Champions League last season after a disappointing individual year.
Lukaku, 28, simply needs to score in both league games in Liverpool’s build-up. It remains to be seen if he will get enough minutes on the pitch, however.
