Haas granted additional time for testing

His request for a test on Sunday was vetoed, Haas has now been given permission to run “additionally” today and Saturday.
The American team, already hard hit after having to part ways with title sponsor Uralkali, was unable to take part in Thursday morning’s session as a problem with the plane carrying its equipment to Bahrain had suffered a technical problem thus delaying His arrival.
The team’s initial request to be allowed to race solo on Sunday was blocked by a number of rivals, but a compromise has now been reached.
Kevin Magnussen will get an extra hour of racing at the end of today’s session, while the team will also get an extra hour tomorrow morning and two hours in the afternoon.
“Now we have to catch up every day,” explained Guenther Steiner. “We can make up four hours of testing, but we have to make them up at the end of the day.
“We are not allowed to race on Sunday,” he added. “Because of the regulations, it has to be three days in a row, and it has to be voted unanimously that we can do it, otherwise we can’t do it.
“We found ourselves in a situation, a bad situation, and we actually worked hard to make the best of it, and now we would be penalized again for having to race at night,” said the Italian.
“Some of the guys worked 30 hours straight to get to where we are, and now if I’m going to ask them again to work harder overnight, because we have to work longer at night, I don’t think let it be fair.
“There is no advantage, if we go to test in the evening, or on Sunday we still put half a day on it,” he insisted. “There is no advantage, we just wouldn’t like another disadvantage.”
