TripAdvisor has become an essential resource for international travelers who rely on the opinions of others to book everything from hotels to activities and unforgettable meals to restaurants when planning a vacation.
When travel site users really like something, they give it a coveted 5-star rating, which isn’t easy to earn. Typically, reviewers consider everything from overall customer service and food quality to room design and hygiene practices. This is why only a small percentage of hotels, resorts and other accommodations rank first.
Well, a new study published courtesy of money.co.uk has analyzed all TripAdvisor reviews to find out which cities around the world have the most hotels with 5-star reviews. Here are the top 10 cities with the most popular stays, according to the results.

Vienna, Austria is full of highly rated hotels, according to the money.co.uk survey. Of a total of 1,116 reviews, 56 properties, or 5% of all hotels in Vienna, achieved a perfect 5-star rating.

It’s no surprise that Dubai has some of the best hotels in the world. According to the survey, 88 of the city’s 1,632 hotels (AKA over 5%) received a perfect rating from visitors.

If you are looking for 5 star accommodation in Turkey, be sure to stay in Istanbul. The largest city in the country has the highest rated hotels in the country. Three hundred and eleven of the 5,660 properties have achieved a 5-star rating on TripAdvisor.

When it comes to countries, Italy has the highest concentration of top-tier accommodations, according to the survey, with three different cities on the list. More than 6% of the 964 hotels in Milan, the fashion capital, have achieved a 5-star rating.

Next on the list of top cities with the most popular hotels in the world? Rome. The Italian capital (and seat of Vatican City) has 7,924 hotels to choose from, the most on this list. Among them, 503 or 6.35% are worthy of 5 stars.

Florence, the capital of the Italian region of Tuscany, has the best hotels in the country, according to the survey. With 1,874 hotels surveyed, 6.51% or 122 received TripAdvisor’s top award with 5 stars.

The best hotels in Japan are not in Tokyo, according to travelers. On the contrary, Kyoto City has the most popular hotels with 7.05% of its 1,858 hotels earning a perfect five-star rating.

Head to the Greek Islands for top-notch accommodation. Of a total of 1,323 hotels in Rhodes Town, 7.41% have been awarded five stars on TripAdvisor by travellers. In the same survey, the city was also ranked six out of ten overall and received top honors for its nightlife, with 37.2% of nightlife spots also earning top reviews.

For the best hotels in Greece, book a trip to Athens. According to the survey, the city has the second highest number of 5-star rated hotels in the world, with 11.84% of hotels rated as perfect by travelers. Athens also came second for its nightlife and is the top-rated city in the world, according to the survey.

Believe it or not, Los Angeles, California, the only city in the United States to make this list, has earned the highest accolade for having the most 5-star rated hotels in the world. According to the survey, out of 954 hotels, 161 (or 16.9%) achieved a perfect rating on TripAdvisor. There you have it, the top 10 cities with the most popular hotels in the world!
