If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that technology only goes forward. So it’s nice to see Vancouver top a new ranking of the best tech cities in the world. The ranking looked at a variety of metrics to determine which spots come out on top. And, we’re here to give you the inside scoop.

The rankings come from Money.co.uk, an online comparison service specializing in finance. To compile the ranking, they used everything from average salaries to startup success to internet speeds, with the end result being a “technology” score out of 10.

And, not only did Vancouver manage to clinch the top spot in Canada, but we’re ranked 7th for the best tech cities in the world! According to them, and using data from the Salary Explorer website, Vancouver has one of the highest median IT salaries on the list, at US$101,293. In addition, we got a special mention in education, thanks to the success of various “technical degrees” from the University of British Columbia. Overall, we managed to get a rating of 7.1 out of 10.

And, while we may balk at the cost of living in Vancouver (and rightly so), we’re actually third-cheapest in the top 10. With an estimated annual cost of living of around US$37,243, we are only more expensive to live. than Stockholm and Dallas, which occupy the 9th and 10th places respectively on the list.

Hmm… maybe it’s time we moonlighted as writers for tech companies, and got a sweet slice of that tech pie.
